Career-Highs For Cougars With Shared Wealth of Points

ANN ARBOR, MICH. -- The Concordia University Chicago men's basketball team battled in game two of the 72nd Annual Concordia Invitational Tournament against the reigning CIT champions, Concordia University Nebraska (CUNE). The Cougars fought hard, but fell 90-71.

INSIDE THE BOX

  • Jacob Collicott (Lafayette, Ind.) led the way with 15 points, eight steals, seven rebounds, five assists, and two blocks.

  • AJ Willard (Germantown, Wis.) followed behind with nine points, three steals, and one rebound.

  • Sean Beckman (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) pitched in seven points, one rebound, and one assist.

  • Jordan Lacey (Bellview, Ill.) and Javen Reid (Wheeling, Ill.) both picked up career highs with seven and eight points, respectively.

  • The Cougars picked up 19 steals to the Bulldogs' seven, while grabbing 27 points on turnovers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF

The Cougars struck first with a three from Collicott to get things going within the first minute of play. The Bulldogs answered right away, but a jumper from Williams would keep the Cougars ahead by three. With another jumper from Kenton Pryor (Homewood, Ill.) keeping the Bulldogs at bay, a 10-0 run for CUNE would give them a lead that they wouldn't relinquish,

Layups from Tallis Lowery (Fairview Heights, Ill.) and Collicott got things moving for the Cougars before a steal from Willard turned layup with the assist from Carter Langendorf (Aurora, Ill.) would break things open for the Cougars. An 8-0 run in favor of the Bulldogs would put them ahead by as much as 15 with under five minutes to play in the half. Back-to-back buckets from Beckman with assists from Collicott would close the first half out with the Cougars trailing by 16.

SECOND HALF

The Cougars kicked off the second half with a 7-0 run highlighted by a steal and fast break dunk from Collicott.

With the team putting in a fresh set of legs across the board, buckets from Ryker Johnson (Fond du Lac, Wis.), Honore Yangoua (Williamstown, Ky.), Lacey, and Reid would contribute the last 19 points of the game before ultimately falling by 19.

The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow as they face Concordia University Wisconsin in the consolation game. Tipoff is set for 3:00 pm EST and coverage can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
