Spartans Thrash Cougars

AURORA, ILL. – The Concordia University Chicago Cougar men's basketball team hit the road to take on the Aurora University Spartans, falling 104-75.

INSIDE THE BOX
  • Justin Greenlee (Brown Deer, Wis.) led the Cougars with 22 points, three rebounds, two steals, and one block.
  • Following behind, Emanuel Wilson (Wheaton, Ill.) and Jacob Collicott (LaFayette, Ind.) each tallied 12 points apiece while contributing one rebound and three rebounds, respectively.
FIRST HALF
The Cougars struck first with a steal from William Bishop-Green (Chicago, Ill.) turned fastbreak dunk to kick things off. Back-to-back buckets from the Spartans would put them ahead by three, but a retaliation layup from Collicott would cut that down to one. A 6-0 run from the Spartans would jump them ahead, but would be broken up by a jumper in the paint from Greenlee. Graduate student Brent Hatten (Olney, Ill.) would hit the first three for the Cougars and bring them within four. A 12-1 run in favor of the Spartans would propel them ahead by 12, but would be broken up by a lone free throw from Darrian Williams (Garland, Texas). The Spartans would continue to take charge of the first half and jump ahead by as much as 25 points while buckets from Williams, Greenlee, Hatten, and Wilson would cut the Cougar deficit down to 15 to close the half.

SECOND HALF
The Spartans kept their foot on the gas and extended their lead back to 25 within the first four minutes of the half. The intense offense from the Spartans made it difficult for the Cougars to keep up, but a layup from Aaron Brown () would drop the deficit below 20 for the first time of the half with less than 13 minutes remaining. As the clock wound down, a fast break layup from Collicott would shine some light on the Cougars after a struggle to find the offensive groove.

As the clock wound down, buckets from Melvin Holder-Maldonado (Waukegan, Ill.), Elijah White (Sheboygan, Wis.), and Kieran Heller (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) would close the game with a final score of 104-74 in favor of the Spartans.

The Cougars will be back in action this Saturday at home against Rockford University. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00pm with a pajama theme. Coverage can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
