Cougars Close Out Season In Opening Round Of NACC Tournament

DE PERE, WIS. — The opening round of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) tournament began with a revenge match for the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's basketball team. Taking on the St. Norbert College Green Knights, the Cougars would ultimately fall in this offensive powerhouse of a game 76-60.

Inside the Box Score:

  • Jacob Collicott (Lafayette, Ind.) had a huge day on offense with 20 points, two steals, one block, and six rebounds

  • In his final game in the maroon and gold, Jordan Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) reached double-digit points with 11 on the night

First Half

William Bishop-Green (Chicago, Ill.) would be the first Cougar to strike as he sank a three 3-3. Then, after a sneaky steal, Collicott would slam one down with an exclamation point. Collicott did not stop there, sinking another three and pushing in for a good jumper 11-10 SNC.

As the Green Knights kept their lead intact, Collicott would be leading the offense to have them trailing only one at 16-15. Following this run, Emanuel Wilson (Wheaton, Ill.) would push through a layup and Joel Watts (Homewood, Ill.) joined the three party to take the lead 20-19. With SNC following this up, they would lead with a score of 31-26 after some Cougar free throws.

Matthews scored his first points of the night with a three pointer just beyond the arc 31-29 SNC. Matthews would score one more bucket before the end of the half, but the Green Knights continued their rally of points 39-31.

Second Half

Coming out of the half, SNC looked to continue their run, with CUC grabbing a couple of points off of drawn fouls 47-33. Justin Greenlee (Brown Deer, Wis.) would start a rally for the Cougars, with an in the paint jumper and Sean Beckman (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) following up right after him 47-37. Collicott continued his stellar night with some fancy moves on the floor 47-39.

Looking to make a big surge of points, Collicott was an offensive beast, slamming down another dunk to have CUC trailing 54-45. With SNC keeping a steady lead, Matthews would find himself with another opportunity to score 66-49.

Bishop-Green found some room for himself to drain a bucket and try to get the Cougars moving 68-52. Wilson and Matthews would both push in for layups in the paint, making the score trailed at just 70-57. Watts would pull in for one himself, with just minutes to spare, 75-59.

Unfortunately, the Cougars could not make enough push past the Green Knights and fell in their final game of the season 76-60.

The Cougars finished off the season with a record of 13-13 overall and 9-9 in conference play. To stay up to date on all things CUC men's basketball, follow them on Instagram and X @ cuc_menhoops. Coverage for all of our sports can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
