Cougars Unable to Swat Falcons To The Ground

MEQUON, WIS. – The Concordia University Chicago Men's Basketball team battled with their rivals of the North, the Falcons of CUW as they fell in the opening round of the 71st Annual Concordia Invitational Tournament. The Cougars and Falcons went back-and-forth exchanging the lead more than two dozen times throughout the game.

INSIDE THE BOX
  • Emanuel Wilson (Wheaton, Ill.) led the Cougars with 22 points and three rebounds while shooting 8-15 from the field.
  • William Bishop-Green (Chicago, Ill.) followed behind with 14 points and four rebounds.
  • Justin Greenlee (Brown Deer, Wis.) and Jacob Collicott (Lafayette, Ind.) led the defensive side of things with seven rebounds apiece.
FIRST HALF
A familiar tale of the Cougar vs. Falcon matchup started early as the two teams battled going back-and-forth for the first few possessions. Two layups from Wilson would jump the Cougars ahead by two while a retaliation three from Jordan Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) would keep the Cougars in a comfortable spot.

The Cougars jumped out to as much as a six-point lead following buckets from Darrian Williams (Garland, Texas) and Elijah White (Sheyboygan, Wis.) while the Falcons would retaliate jumping to a 6-point lead themselves to close the half.

SECOND HALF
The second half told mostly a tale of the Falcons as they jumped out to an early ten-point lead less than five minutes into the half. A 4-0 run for the Cougars created by Wilson and Bishop-Green would turn the score back towards their favor, but a lead foot on the gas for the Falcons would sway things once again. Seeing the lead change a total of 24 times in the second half, the Cougars struggled to remain on top. Threes from Wilson and Joel Watts (Homewood, Ill.) would show promising efforts for the Cougar, but ultimately just not enough.

The Cougars would fall to the Falcons 85-77 following a handful of free throws in favor of the Falcons. The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow as they take on the Concordia-Ann Arbor Cardinals in the consolation game of the 71st Annual Concordia Invitational Tournament.
