DE PERE, WIS. - The Concordia University Chicago Women's Basketball team traveled up North to take on the Green Knights of St. Norbert College, falling 87-58.
INSIDE THE BOX
- Alisyn MacGregor (Loves Park, Ill.) picked up a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and one assist.
- Cydnei Mitchell (Aurora, Ill.) secured a new career high 10 points while shooting 4-4 from the free throw line.
- 11 Cougars picked up points tonight as Prentciss Gates (Gary, Ind.), Melia Perry (Plainfield, Ill.), and Emily Balaban (Manitowoc, Wis.) all drained threes on the night.
FIRST QUARTER
The Cougars struck first after a pair of free throws from MacGregor kicked things off. With a quick retaliation three from the Green Knights, back-to-back layups from
Abby Kulig (Carol Stream, Ill.) and
Nazuri Whigham (Naperville, Ill.) put the Cougars up by three. Another three from the Green Knights would level the score once again, but a three from Gates would give the Cougars their final lead of the day. A 7-0 run for the Green Knights would put them up four. Trading buckets for a late stretch in the first quarter, an 8-0 run from the Green Knights would extend their lead to 11.
SECOND QUARTER
Down but not out, the Cougars carried on with a layup from MacGregor and a three from Perry to kick start the second quarter. Riding the ups and downs of the game, the Cougars saw their deficit drop as low as single-digits and extend as high as 17. Fresh out of a timeout, an and-one from Mitchel brought the Cougars within ten, but a 6-0 run to end the quarter left the Cougars trailing by 16.
THIRD QUARTER
Needing to pull themselves out of a puddle, the Cougars struck first with jumpers from
Alexis Desjarlait (Red Lake, Minn.) and Whigham. Another jumper from Whigham would cut the Cougar deficit down to 12, but a retaliation and-one in favor of the Green Knights erased the progress the Cougars had made. Four points from Kulig would keep the Cougars near the 12 point deficit, but a 10-0 run for the Green Knights would set the Cougars back once again. A last second layup from Mitchell would bring the Cougars down to a 20 point deficit heading into the final ten minutes of play.
FOURTH QUARTER
Struggling to get their footing on defense, the Cougars fell into rut and allowed the Green Knights to go on a 19-5 run to extend their lead by as much as 34. Picking up eight of their 11 points from the free throw line, the Cougars would be unable to pull themselves out of the deficit they fell into.
The Cougars will be back on the road on Wednesday as they head to the South side to take on the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks with a 7:00pm tipoff. Coverage can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
