DECATUR, ILL. – After dropping their first two games, the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's basketball team (1-2, 0-0 NACC) looked to salvage their first win of the season at Millikin University (2-2, 0-0 CCIW). The Cougars offense showed up big time as they defeated the Big Blue 104-70.
Inside the Box
- Jordan Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) led the offensive attack with 21 points. Matthews has now scored 20 or more points in two consecutive games. He also added five rebounds and four assists.
- Emanuel Wilson (Wheaton, Ill.) recorded 20 points as well shooting 7-9 from the field and 4-5 from three.
- Justin Greenlee (Brown Deer, Wis.) has been a great facilitator throughout his career in River Forest. Greenlee was one assist shy of a double-double after notching 11 points and nine assists.
First Half
It was a back-and-forth affair in the first couple minutes of the opening half, but the ever-reliant
Brent Hatten (Olney, Ill.) buried a three-pointer at the top of the key to help the Cougars take the lead 12-10.
The maroon and gold continued to light it up from behind the arc as
William Bishop-Green (Chicago, Ill.) knocked down his first three-pointer of the night giving CUC an eight-point cushion with 9:48 remaining in the half.
Bishop-Green continued to make his impact felt knocking down a layup off the assist from Greenlee making the score 36-30.
The Cougars could not have asked for a better night shooting the ball as
Sean Beckman (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) connected on another three-pointer with 4:19 remaining. CUC entered the locker room leading 52-38.
Second Half
The Cougars picked up right where they left off coming out of halftime as Beckman showed off his range hitting his third three. He finished his night with 16 points on 4-6 shooting from behind the arc. The Cougars continued to build their lead 57-40.
A little less than midway through the final half,
Joel Watts (Homewood, Ill.) sliced through the Millikin defense for a smooth finish at the rim with 8:53 left in regulation.
To cap off the night,
Elijah White (Sheboygan, Wis.) splashed his lone three-point attempt giving the Cougars their 100
th point.
As a whole, CUC exploded on offense shooting 61% from the perimeter and 60% from behind the three-point line. The team also had five players in double figures. The Cougars routed Millikin 104-70, their highest scoring output thus far.
