Warriors Trounce Cougars in Geiseman

River Forest, Ill. – For the first time in two weeks, the Concordia University-Chicago women's basketball team (8-8, 7-4 NACC) returned to Geiseman Gymnasium for a conference matchup with Wisconsin Lutheran College (11-6, 8-2 NACC). This is the first time these two teams have met this season.

Inside the Box
  • Jaylene Wade (Lansing, Ill.) lead the Cougars in scoring with eight points. She also added three rebounds and an assist on the afternoon.
  • Alisyn MacGregor (Loves Park, Ill.) led the team in rebounds with six. She also scored six points shooting 2-2 from the field and 2-2 from the charity stripe.
  • Nazuri Whigham (Naperville, Ill.) and Mckayley Hopkins (St. Louis, Mo.) both picked up three steals apiece while adding five and six points, respectively.

First Quarter
The Cougar's defense was tested early as the Warriors jumped out to an 19-1 lead before the Cougars scored their first field goal attempt at the hands of MacGregor. MacGregor scored the only field goal of the quarter off of a clean dish from Wade.
The Cougars concluded the first quarter shooting only 11% from the field while the Warriors shot almost 53% from inside the arc.

Second Quarter
The start of second quarter proved to be much of the same. The Warriors struck first extending their lead 25-3. However, senior point guard Wade responded with a jumper of her own to cut down the Warrior lead.
Later in the quarter, Madelyn McGrath (Oak Lawn, Ill.) showed off her range after hitting a deep range three with 4:33 remaining. McGrath's three was the second three-point attempt scored for the Cougars in the half.
The Cougars outscored the Warriors 17-14 in the second quarter to provide momentum for the team heading into halftime.

Third Quarter
The Cougar's scoring attack continued as Wade sank a pull-up jumper in the opening minute of the third quarter.
However, the Cougar's defense could not contain the Warrior's offensive charge. The Warriors finished the third quarter shooting over 60% from the floor to boost their lead 63-32.

Fourth Quarter
Hopkins flashed her hot hands as she got the steal and took the ball coast-to-coast to get a nice driving bucket. Hopkins finished the afternoon with six points.
The Warriors outscored the Cougars 16-8 in the fourth quarter in route to handing the Cougars their biggest loss of the season 79-40.

The Cougars will return to their home court Wednesday night for another conference matchup against Rockford University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., and coverage can be found at cucougars.com.
