LA CROSSE, WIS.. – Hitting the road following their back-to-back wins last week, the Concordia University Chicago women's basketball team (2-3, 1-0 NACC) fell to the Eagles of UW-La Crosse 75-52.
Inside the Box
- Jaylene Wade led the Cougars on the night with 13 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.
- Katherine Benes followed behind with 13 points, three rebounds, and one assist.
- Alexis Desjarlait tied her career-high rebounds with six on the night.
With the Eagles winning the tip and putting up points first, the Cougars jumped ahead after Desjarlait drained her first three of the night. Despite the Eagles continuing to attack offensively, the Cougars remained neck-in-neck as they closed the first quarter trailing 17-12.
After trailing the majority of the first quarter, the Cougars cut the lead to three off a jumper from Wade. Wade continued to take charge in the second quarter both scoring and assisting as a dish to
Alisyn MacGregor and a jumper inside the three kept the Cougars alive.
Heading into the half the Cougars trailed by ten, but a three fresh out of the gate from
Jada Dixon brought them back within six. As the offense from the Eagles continued to dominate, the Cougars had to pick up where they could. A charge drawn by Benes followed by a big time three from Wade would close out the third quarter.
A pair of threes in the fourth quarter from
Madelyn McGrath and
Emily Balaban would drive up their numbers, but the Cougar ultimately would fall 75-52.
The Cougars head back home before the Thanksgiving holiday for another conference matchup against IIT slated for a noon tipoff on Wednesday, November 23rd. Coverage can be found at cucougars.com.
