On a day to celebrate their seniors, the Concordia University Chicago men's lacrosse team (2-11) fought hard before ultimately falling to the Marian University Sabres (7-5).
Marian put themselves on the board first leading the score 2-0, but not before the Cougars responded to even things up. After letting up a few more goals, CUC was able to tie the score again at 5-5 during the second quarter. A tough battle kept the Cougars in the game, despite Marian going on a 4-0 scoring run that gave them the lead 9-5 going into halftime.
As the game continued to get more physical, the flags kept flying. The game noted a total of 17 penalties, including 12 extra man opportunities for the Cougars. The Sabres dominated during the second half, winning 19 out of 24 face-offs and grabbing 35 of 53 ground balls. Senior captain Jack Liskey (Crown Point, Ind.) grabbed 17 saves on the day, while three Cougars grabbed goals. Dylan Mordhorst (Centreville, Va.) and Chadd Rowe (Atlanta, Ga.) each noted three goals, while Jarred Tabor (Crystal Lake, Ill.) added two. Â
As the season comes to an end, the three seniors, Liskey, Benjamin Lang (West Dundee, Ill.) and Isaac Strand (Mukwonago, Wis.), will be remembered for their hard work and contributions to the program.
