The Concordia University Chicago women's basketball team (3-8) played in the semifinal round of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference South tournament against the Benedictine University Eagles. After four quarters of play, the Cougars lost the contest 43-65.
Â
The Eagles pulled ahead early, resulting in a 12-point lead over CUC heading into the second quarter. That's all it took for Benedictine to stay on top. Although the Cougars chiseled away at the Eagles' lead multiple times, it didn't stop Benedictine from coming out with the 22-point victory and moving on to the NACC South Finals on Saturday.
Â
The story of the season continued tonight for sophomore
Tara Hastings (New Lenox, Ill.). The guard finished tonight's contest with 15 points along with one assist. This put Hastings at a team-high 121 points on the season in only 10 games.
Â
Rounding out the scoring for the Cougars were sophomores
Mikalah Ellis (Chicago, Ill.) and
Jaylene Wade (Lansing, Ill.). Ellis recorded 11 points and eight rebounds in the contest while Wade registered nine points. Fellow sophomore
Chloe Schaafsma (Lockport, Ill.) also grabbed eight rebounds of her own along with the team's only block of the night.
Â
