Box Score River Forest, Ill. — That's a winner! For the first time in 365 days, the Concordia Chicago men's basketball team (1-8) emerged victorious with a 94-78 win over Lake Forest (0-1).
The Cougars set the tone early, shooting lights out in the first half from deep. CUC made nine shots from beyond the arc to enter the break with a 46-27 lead. Hungry for their first win, the team didn't stop there, splashing home seven more three's in the second half to roll to victory.
Nine different players made a shot from long range for CUC, highlighted by junior Jordan Matthews (Chicago, Ill.), who made four on the night. Matthews led all scorers with 24 points. Freshman Emanuel Wilson (Wheaton, Ill.) was stellar off the bench, scoring nine points including a pair of three's.
The team welcomed back sophomore guard Brent Hatten (Olney, Ill.) and he made an immediate impact. Thrown right into a starting role, Hatten put up 10 points and played a major role in facilitating the offense during his time on the floor. Izak Ruddell (Saint Joseph, Mich.) was again a factor for the Cougars, scoring 18 points.
Sophomore Jordan Schmidt (Noblesville, Ind.) contributed nine points of his own, including a couple of triples. Fellow sophomores Jarron and Jaxon Gaddie (Louisville, Ky.) both hit a three during the Cougars' electric first half performance. Freshman Justin Greenlee (Brown Deer, Wis.) and senior Kenta Jones (Bensenville, Ill.) were responsible for three-pointers of their own.
The Cougars will be back in action Friday night when they kick-off a back-to-back at home against Aurora. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the stream can be found on the CUC Athletic's Youtube channel.
