Angola, Ind. – With holiday break finishing up, we turn back to the Cougars for a riveting game on the road. CUC Men's Basketball (3-6, 1-3 NACC) faced off against #16 Trine University (7-4) in Indiana today. The Cougars went to go out hard in the last game of 2021, but ultimately fell 56-88.
Top Cougars:
● Jordan Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) led the Cougars with a staggering 21 points, one off of tying his season high back in early December against Marian.
● Landen Gladney (Chicago, Ill.) and Izak Ruddell (Saint Joseph, Mich.) provided on the defensive end with 5 and 8 rebounds, respectively.
● Finally, Kieran Heller (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) had an incredible night with 3 three-point shots as he continued to shoot for the Cougars.
Starting this game, the Cougars came out offensively hot as they drove the score to 8-7. Keeping in time with the Thunder, CUC made sure to come out with a lot of energy to fight off against one of the best defenses in the nation. However, Trine was able to find the momentum and take the first half from the Cougars at 25-47.
However, Matthews and Gladney were both an offensive and defensive pair to see. Matthews had 11 points and 2 assists and Gladney was not far behind him with 9 points and 4 rebounds. Tavarus Davis-Williams (Fox Lake, Ill.) and Ruddell also had 3 rebounds a piece to help with the Cougar Defense.
Opening the second half, the Cougars tried to make another charge for points as they battled back and forth with the Thunder. Matthews continued to be a huge point driver as he pushed to 10 more in the second half. Whereas Heller came alive, providing 3 three-point shots for the Cougars. However, it would prove to be too late for Concordia-Chicago as they fall to Trine University 56-88.
