Box Score River Forest, Ill. — The Concordia Chicago men's basketball (0-2) team fell in their conference opener to Benedictine (1-1) by a final score of 68-54 on Friday night.
After battling for much of the first half, the Cougars went to the break trailing by nine. They kept fighting to gain the lead in the second half, but the Eagles seemed to have an answer any time CUC got within reach.
In his season debut, junior guard Jordan Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) made his presence felt with 12 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists. He was an efficient 6-14 from the floor and produced a steal on the defensive end.
Other notable Cougar performances include freshman guard Emanuel Wilson (Wheaton, Ill.), who scored a team-high 14 points. It's the second time in as many games that the freshman was CUC's leading scorer; he also led the team with five rebounds. Senior guard Kenta Jones (Bensenville, Ill.) shot a productive 3-5 from the floor, including 2-4 from three-point range en route to picking up nine points.
