Big Week... Last week the Cougars went 3-0, picking up two conference wins over Aurora and Dominican, and winning their first non-conference game of the year against Maranatha Baptist. CUC scored 100+ points in two of those three games, marking the fourth time the team has reached that feat this season, and also broke a school and NACC record by scoring 21 three-pointers against the Sabrecats, on Thursday night. With the three-win week, the Cougars improve to 6-6 overall and 5-3 in NACC play, while already reaching their win total from just a season ago. Heading into their match up against the Falcons, CUC is in fifth place among NACC standings while CUW sits in the third-placed seed.
Bright Lights... Senior
Raushaun Amos and graduate student
Xeo Golding have played massive roles in CUC's success this season, as the duo averages 14.6 and 12.6 points per game, respectively. Last week, both Amos and Golding averaged 19.3 points per game, over the three-game stretch, while Amos shot 15-of-27 from beyond the arc and Golding shot 51.1 percent from the floor.
Falcon Watch... In the last 15 match ups against CUW, the Cougars have gone 1-14 against the Falcons. Concordia-Chicago last beat Concordia Wisconsin back on Jan. 8, 2014 by a score of 98-93. Since then, CUC has averaged 75.6 points per game against CUW, and most recently dropped a contest in Mequon last January, 88-78. Dating back to 2006, CUC has beaten the Falcons in Mequon just once, taking place on Nov. 20, 2007 in a tight, 76-74 battle. This season, the Falcons are 7-5 and 6-2 in NACC play, only falling to Wisconsin Lutheran and Illinois Tech. Averaging 77.8 points per game, CUW is led by Jordan Johnson and Brandon Keller, who average 17.0 and 12.5 points per game, respectively. CUW's Johnson joined the program's 1000th point club over the weekend during a win against Marian.
Pieces of the Puzzle... After just playing 46 minutes during his freshman year, now sophomore
Izak Ruddell has worked his way into being a critical part of CUC's success this season. Since joining Concordia's starting lineup, five games ago, Ruddell has averaged 9.2 points per game, dished 13 assists, shot 62.5 percent from the floor and shot 62.5 percent from three-point range. On the season, Ruddell has shot 64.0 percent from beyond the arc, marking the best percentage among all active NACC players.
