PLYMOUTH, Wis. -- The Concordia-Chicago men's basketball team fell to 5-10 in NACC play tonight, after falling 100-83 to Lakeland University.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Freshman Landen Gladney earned 16 first half points en route to his second straight game of scoring a career-high 28 points. He also finished with 12 rebounds to reach his 17th double-double of the season.Â
- Hassan Basbous recorded the first double-double of his career, finishing with 18 points and 11 boards.Â
- CUC had taken no three-point attempts until four minutes left in regulation. From that point, sophomore Cade Mousel shot 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.
- Down the stretch, tonight's difference maker came from behind the three-point line. CUC shot 48.1 percent from the floor on the night, just behind Lakeland's 52.1 percent. However, the Muskies shot 16-of-30 on three-point field goals, opposed to Concordia-Chicago's 2-of-3.Â
Neil O'Donnell kicked off the night with a pull up jumper to give CUC the early lead. From there, the game slid into a groove as the Cougars would hang onto that 2-0 lead for the first two and a half minutes of play.
Following O'Donnell's basket, the Muskies went on an unanswered 10-point run to grab hold of a 10-2 lead. After calling a timeout, the Cougars were able to break up their drought as Pelissier drove through the lane to bank in a layupÂ
Despite CUC's consistent efforts, Lakeland continued to hang onto its lead. The Muskies kept the Cougars at an arm's length throughout the half, with CUC always trailing by at least six points. After the first 20 minutes of play, Concordia-Chicago shot 48.6 percent from the floor and committed six turnovers. Lakeland managed to convert 10 points off of CUC's turnovers and head into the halftime break leading 49-39.
Basbous took control for the Cougars in the opening minutes of the final half. With three straight layups, the sophomore pulled CUC once again within six points of the Muskies.Â
As time rolled on, the Muskies continued to hit clutch shots from beyond the arc, while the Cougars had yet to take a three-point shot. Finally, down 71-84 with four minutes to go, Mousel entered the floor for CUC and drained the Cougars' very first three-point attempt of the night to make it a 10-point game.
Despite Concordia's resilience, the Cougars ultimately fell to the Muskies, 100-83.
CUC will return to the floor shortly, taking on Rockford University on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
