Cougars Set to Close Out Season with Aurora

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The Concordia-Chicago men's basketball team is prepared to host Aurora University tomorrow, in CUC's last game of the 2018-19 season.

Tip off is slated for a 4:15 p.m. start time, beginning approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's 2 p.m. contest. Live statistics and video will be available at cucougars.com/coverage with C.J. Selner and Joel Krenz on the call for the day's match ups.

Senior Send-Off... Tomorrow's game will serve as Senior Day, where the Cougars will honor Jamal Turner and Mitch Pelissier for their careers in maroon and gold. Turner has appeared in 23 games for CUC, scoring a career-high 14 points against University of Puget Sound on Dec. 17, 2018. The Texas native has averaged 4.1 points per game this season and dished 15 assists. Pelissier will go down as one of the best players in Concordia-Chicago history as his four-year tenure comes to a close. The Sports Management major is a career 19.7 points per game shooter, good for second highest all-time in CUC history. Averaging 21.8 points per game this season, he has also earned 1,802 career points.

Last Time Out... The Cougars will look to win their last game of the season tomorrow, after falling 90-71 last night against Edgewood College. Sophomore Jalen Meeks led the way for CUC, scoring 19 points. Rookie Landen Gladney reached his 19th double-double on the season as well, as he recorded 13 points and 10 boards.

Scouting the Spartans... Aurora is 13-11 on the season, and has already clinched a berth in the NACC playoffs. Bailey Vance leads his squad, averaging 14.7 points and 7.2 assists per game this year. His teammate Tyler Carson is just behind with a 12.8 scoring average.

Last Meeting... The two NACC teams last saw one another on Jan. 3, where the Spartans came out on top, 97-84. Pelissier dropped 26 points that night, but it wasn't enough to stop Aurora's Tyler Carson, who scored 37 points and shot 14-20 from the field, including five three-pointers.

Buckets for Basbous... Since joining the starting lineup for the Cougars in January to kick off the second half, sophomore Hassan Basbous has been a steady hand for CUC. In his last five games, the Illinois native is averaging a double-double with 17.8 points per game and 12.4 rebounds per game, including a remarkable career-high 34 points against Marian earlier this week. With his four double-doubles in the last two weeks, they have marked the firsts of his career in maroon and gold.

Freshman Phenom... Landen Gladney continues to push his limits this season, with 19 double-doubles recorded in 24 games on the year. The rookie has also recorded double-digit rebounds in 21 games, putting him atop the national rankings for double-doubles and rebounding. Gladney is currently second in the NACC, averaging 12.4 boards per game and is also sixth in the conference with his 17.8 points per game average.
