Last Time Out... The Cougars are coming off a commanding 88-71 victory over Dominican University last Saturday, where senior
Mitch Pelissier dropped 24 points with 11 rebounds to tab his first double-double of the season. All five of CUC's starters reached double figures in scoring, with
Landen Gladney scoring 21,
Jalen Meeks with 17,
Neil O'Donnell with 13 and
Hassan Basbous with 10.
Scouting the Sabres... With a record matching CUC's, Marian is 6-16 overall on the season and has four conference wins. The Sabres have four of their six victories in front of their home crowd with Logan Hamilton and Tavaris McCullough leading the charge, scoring 13.3 and 13.0 points per game, respectively. From beyond the arc, Tyrese Pinson poses the biggest threat to the Cougars, shooting 43.2 percent on the year from range.
Last Meeting... The two NACC foes last battled head-to-head back in November, where the Cougars routed the Sabres 98-83 in Geiseman Gymnasium. That night, CUC had four scorers in double-figures, with
Jalen Meeks headlining the night scoring 23 points with 11 rebounds and two steals. For Marian, Tavaris McCullough had a solid showing, leading his team with 18 points off 7-of-16 shooting from the field.
Freshman Phenom... Landen Gladney continues to push his limits this season, with 18 double-doubles recorded in 22 games on the year. The rookie has also recorded double-digit rebounds in 20 games, putting him atop the national rankings for double-doubles and rebounding. Gladney is currently second in the NACC, averaging 12.7 boards per game and is also sixth in the conference with his 18.2 points per game average.
Buckets for Basbous... Since joining the starting lineup for the Cougars in January to kick off the second half, sophomore
Hassan Basbous has averaged 11.2 points per game for CUC. With his points per game average, the Illinois native has scored in double-digits in each of his last seven games, including his first three career double-doubles. With last weekend's victory over Dominican, Basbous also reached a career-high with 19 boards during the match up.
