Cougars Back in Action at Edgewood

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- After another week-long hiatus, the Concordia-Chicago men's basketball team is back and ready to continue NACC play tomorrow afternoon at Edgewood College.

Tip off is slated for a 3:15 p.m. start time, approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's 1 p.m. match up, with complete coverage available at cucougars.com/coverage and @cuc_menhoops on Twitter.

Last Time Out... The Cougars came out electric in their conference opener against the Sabres last Saturday, as CUC routed Marian University 100-75 in Fond du Lac, Wis. The Cougars trailed throughout the first five minutes of the contest, before a Charlie Reznikoff jumper changed leads, giving CUC the momentum to never trail again. Jalen Meeks had another stellar outing, boasting 22 points, followed by rookie Brent Hatten and sophomore Landen Gladney who each scored 19 and 18 points, respectively. CUC shot 60 percent from the field and held Marian to just 38.2 percent shooting.  The Rookie... Through the first three games of his collegiate career, Brent Hatten has already become an integral part of CUC's rotation. Earning the start in two of Concordia's first three games, Hatten has reached double-figures in scoring in all three games and reached a new career-high with 19 points against Marian last weekend. Shooting 64 percent from the field, Hatten is third on the team with 45 total points, just behind Jalen Meeks and Landen Gladney. Across the conference, Hatten ranks third in field goal percentage and three-point percentage, with his 64 percent and 58.3 percent, respectively.

Eagle Eye... With a strong non-conference schedule like the Cougars, the Edgewood Eagles are 0-3 to start the year and will begin their conference slate against CUC tomorrow. With losses to UW-Stevens Point and No. 13 UW-Oshkosh, the Eagles are averaging 70.7 points per game and shooting 25.3 percent from the field. From the charity stripe, the Eagles are sinking 71.2 percent of their free throws, just one-tenth behind CUC's 71.3 percentage. Junior Ben Seefeld is leading Edgewood's charge, as he averages 20.7 points per game, which is second-most among the NACC.

Notables... CUC dropped a pair of contests to the Eagles in the 2018-19 season, and have not defeated Edgewood since Jan. 22, 2017. Senior Neil O'Donnell was the only current Cougar to have appeared in that contest, as he grabbed one rebound and dished one assist. As CUC is now 2-5 in their last seven conference openers, the Cougars will look to open up NACC play with a 2-0 record for the first time in 10 years. Concordia-Chicago last started conference play 2-0 during the 2009-10 season, as the Cougars beat Dominican and Lakeland in back-to-back match ups.
