Cougars Drop Season Finale To Fontbonne

River Forest, Ill.- Concordia Chicago returned home this afternoon for the finale of the 2018 season against Fontbonne University.  Before the game, the Cougars honored their lone senior in Robert Padilla who brought an intimidating and tough presence to the defense in his first year ever of playing lacrosse.  The first half displayed some back and forth action, but it was the Griffins who took advantage of Cougar mistakes to take a 8-2 lead into halftime.  The second half was more of a defensive, slow paced game as Fontbonne were able to hold on with a 13-3 victory over the Cougars.

Jordan Loeffler led the Cougars with two goals and one groundball on the afternoon.  Hunter Combe followed that up with a goal of his own, seven groundballs, and one caused turnover.

Concordia Chicago got off to a great start with Combe ripping a shot past the goalkeeper from the left wing to give CUC a quick 1-0 lead.  Fontbonne then put the pressure on the Cougar defense.  The Griffins were able to move the ball in the offensive zone to score seven straight goals and take command of the game.  With eight minutes left in the half, Loeffler fought off a defender to score his 11th goal of the year and cut the lead to 7-2.  Fontbonne scored one late in the half and took an 8-2 lead into halftime.

The second half started well for CUC as Loeffler netted his second goal of the game, but the Cougars couldn't find any more goals after that.  Concordia Chicago got looks on net, but were firing them wide.  Fontbonne closed out the game with five straight goals and won by the final score of 13-3.

Concordia-Chicago (1-15, 0-9 MLC) wrapped up their first season under first year head coach Brian Welch.  With the improvement this year, the future is bright for the Concordia Chicago men's lacrosse program.
