Warriors Top Cougars in Wild Wisconsin Shootout

Dec. 8, 2018 – It was back on the road for the Concordia-Chicago Cougars this afternoon following a five-game home stand. Unfortunately, a change of venue was not any kinder for the Cougars. The Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors built up a large halftime lead with a blistering shooting performance and were able to hold off the Cougars by a final score of 108-97.

The Warriors got off to a fast start, led by Collin Kennedy. WLC's top scorer hit his first three shots from the field, one a three and another leading to a three-point play, as WLC took an early 12-4 lead.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Landen Gladney led CUC with 20 points and 13 rebounds. The 6'5" freshman extended his streak of double-double at the start of his career to seven.
• Jamal Turner scored a career-high 10 points on 3-3 shooting from the field (including a three) and 3-4 from the FT line. Evan Snyder also hit a career-high in points with three late treys for nine points.
• Israel Dosie's 17 points was his highest output since his career-high 21 points versus Benedictine University in 2017.
• The Cougars topped 90 points for the fourth time this season, including both of their games on the road. CUC averaged 89.8 points entering today's game.

Concordia-Chicago's offense began to heat up, as Mitch Pelissier and Israel Dosie hit the Cougars' first triples of the day, and Landen Gladney made his presence felt inside as he warmed up to a 12-point first half. But the Cougars had no answers for the Warriors' torrid shooting. Kennedy torched CUC for 29 first-half points on 12-15 shooting from the field, and the Warriors shot a blistering 10-21 from three-point range in building a daunting 62-39 lead at the half.

The Cougars scored the first five points of the second half with Dosie knocking in another three. Later in the half, CUC trimmed the deficit to 80-64 as Jalen Meeks, limited much of the day due to foul trouble, hit a layup followed by a three from the left corner. However, a couple of missed shots and a few turnovers on the ensuing possessions slowed the comeback, and WLC promptly built the lead back over 20 points. The Cougars would get no closer until the final few minutes of the game.

Kennedy finished with a career-high game of 37 points on 14-19 from the field, 5-7 from behind the arc, and 4-6 at the free throw line. He also added 11 rebounds and four assists in capping off a virtual one-man show, although the Warriors collectively shot 53 percent (38-72) from the field.

The Cougars (2-5, 2-4 NACC) will break for finals week before resuming play next Saturday, Dec. 15 at Benedictine University.
