River Forest, Ill. – Looking to close out 2018 on a high note, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Basketball team took to the floor against the Rockford University Regents this afternoon. Rockford held a slim lead after the first, but the Cougars put their foot down the rest of the way to close out 2018 with a 99-73 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Sophomore Sam Bloom had a career high 21 points on the night.
- Junior Crystal Corr had a career day, finishing with 18 points and a career high 17 rebounds.
- CUC shot 44.4 percent from the floor which is a season high.
- The Cougars finished with 44 points in the paint and 33 fast break points.
- CUC had a season high 26 assists as a team on 36 made shots.
CUC opened the first quarter strong on an 8-0 run. Bloom got things started with a three and two free throws.
McKayla Tilton followed with a deep three off of the wing. Rockford countered with a run of their own to pull back within one midway through the quarter. The Regents continued to add on, using a 10-0 run of their own to build a 17-10 lead late in the quarter. A Bloom three and a
Maddie Vojacek layup got CUC back within 21-17 at the end of the quarter.
The Cougars got the offense going once again in the second quarter. CUC used a 22-2 run over the first 4:05 of the quarter to open up a 39-23 lead. CUC went 8-10 shooting during the run getting seven points from
Michaela Thornton and Vojacek. The Cougars also had six steals during the run as well. CUC continued to work with a lead throughout the quarter, extending the lead to 20 on a Vojacek three with 1:31 remaining in the quarter. Rockford got a late free throw to cut the CUC lead to 53-34 at the half.
Annika Rae got the Cougars going to start the third quarter with a three. Back-to-back layups by Thornton built the CUC out to 24 early in the quarter.

Ashley Measel and
Sarah Ludwig also got involved in the offense in the quarter as CUC was able to take a 73-52 lead into the fourth.
CUC continued to keep things going offensively in the fourth, Bloom and Rae poured in threes to build the lead to 29.
Marie Baumgartner got involved in the fourth as well, as the freshman netted eight points in the quarter as the Cougars were able to cruise to the 99-73 victory.
The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday night when they head to Aurora University. Opening tip is set for 6:00pm.
