RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The Concordia-Chicago Cougars are gearing up for their home opener tomorrow night against NACC foe Rockford University.
After dropping its season opener to Kalamazoo College on Monday, the Cougars will look to snap a 10-game losing streak, with the team's last win coming on Jan. 20, 2018 against Dominican University. CUC is also looking to win its home opener for the first time since the 2015-16 season, with a 89-77 victory over Edgewood College. Tip off is slated for a 7 p.m. start time in Geiseman Gymnasium.
Schwarz's Hot Start... Justin Schwarz had a strong opening night for his sophomore campaign, leading the team with 23 points. Taking smart shots, he averaged 50 percent on the night and was 3-3 from the charity stripe. He also tallied four rebounds. Monday night was the second 20-point game for the Edwardsville, Ill. native.
Aren't You Glad?... Freshman Landen Gladney had a stunning collegiate debut for CUC, scoring a double-double with 16 points and 14 boards. The Chicago native reached his double-double feat by the 24th minute of the game against Kalamazoo. Gladney's double-double was the first for a Cougar on opening night since Kris Claybon did so in 2015.
Big Off the Bench... Sawyer Concklin and Cade Mousel were clutch off the bench for the Cougars in their season opener on Monday night. Concklin and Mousel scored 11 and 12 points, respectively, combining for 23 of CUC's 33 points off the bench. With both guards seeing 17 minutes of action, the duo scored 21 of their 23 points from beyond the arc and shot 7-14 from the floor, collectively.
