Cougars Come Up Short Against Rockford

River Forest, Ill.- Concordia-Chicago began a four game homestand tonight when they took on Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opponent Rockford University.  This game was due to be played last Thursday, but incoming weather conditions got in the way of it.  Both teams come into tonight's game struggling as the Cougars are still searching for their first NACC win and the Regents losing seven out of their last eight.  Unfortunately for CUC, Rockford got out to an early lead and didn't look back in their 94-79 victory over the Cougars.

The start of the game wasn't kind to the Cougars as the Regents came out with a quick 12-2 run.  With both teams going back and forth, Mitch Pelissier tried to get CUC back into the game.  Pelissier was on fire from the floor as he netted 12 out of 14 points to get the Cougars within six just over midway through the first half.  Rockford quickly halted the Cougars run to get their lead back up to 11.  Concordia-Chicago made another run led by Jonathan Wilson knocking down two threes late in the half to cut the lead to three.  However, the Cougars couldn't get a stop on defense and Rockford upped their lead to nine and take a 47-38 lead heading into halftime.

The second half didn't get any better for Concordia-Chicago.  The closest the Cougars got to the Rockford lead was seven early in the second half.  From there, Rockford turned on the burners, knocking down threes and forcing turnovers that led to easy points in transition.  The Regents got their lead to as much as 24, but ended up closing the game out with a 94-79 victory.

Pelissier finished with a game high 30 points (10-19 FG, 5-10 from three, and 5-6 FT), four rebounds, and two assists.  Wilson followed that up with his second double-double of the season finishing with 19 points (7-14) and 13 rebounds.

The Cougars (1-13, 0-10 NACC) will return to action Wednesday when they continue their homestand against Marian University.  Tip off is set for 7:00pm.
