Loss to Rams Ends Cougars' Home Stand

April 1, 2017 -  While a four-game home stand looked to be a welcome stretch of the schedule a few weeks ago for the Concordia-Chicago men's lacrosse team, the Cougars were unable to net any positive results, including the conclusion of the four-game set this afternoon. Visiting Cornell College built a big early lead, aided by some splendid passing around the net and defeated CUC by a final score of 22-5.

Cornell came out firing from the start with AJ Fisher opening the scoring just 52 seconds into the game. The Rams would take 21 shots in the first quarter, 17 of them on goal. CUC goalie Alex Pankey was kept very busy, making 10 saves, but Cornell scored seven times in the first 15 minutes, three by Fisher, to take immediate control of the game.

The Rams added six more goals in the second quarter. Meanwhile, the Cougars' lone tally for the half cane from freshman Brett Krueger following a penalty to Cornell. From behind the net, Jordan Loeffler found Krueger in the slot, and Krueger fired a low, hard shot through a screen and into the net. Despite the strike, however, the Cougars still trailed 13-1 at the half.

The second half was a fast-moving affair that saw Fisher finish off a six-goal game and Braedon Geraghty a five-goal effort. The Cougars found some more scoring opportunities and converted four of them. Loeffler made good on a feed from Krueger in the third quarter. DeMond Menefee and Krueger scored unassisted tallies in the fourth, and Loeffler scored again on an assist by Corey Sheehan.

Cornell finished the game with a 62-16 advantage in shots. Pankey recorded 22 saves for the game.

The Cougar men will resume action on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. with a road match at the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
