Beavers Use Three Ball To Down Cougars

River Forest, Ill.- Concordia-Chicago was in action this evening against a talented Buena Vista team who is in the top 20 in the nation in many offensive categories.  The Cougars hoped to rebound after a tough loss in overtime to Edgewood.  However, Buena Vista's hot start from three really set the tone in the game and the Cougars couldn't overcome the early deficit.  The Beavers used that and beat the Cougars 98-65.

Jonathan Wilson led the Cougars in scoring with 20 points (9-18) and three rebounds, followed by Mitch Pelissier who had 19 points (8-16), eight rebounds, and three assists.

Buena Vista hit 53 percent (36-68) from the field compared to the Cougars shooting 36 percent (25-69).  The big difference in the game was the three point shooting.  The Beavers shot 38 percent (12-32), while Concordia-Chicago shot 25 percent (6-24).

The Beavers came out blades of glory behind the three point line.  Buena Vista hit six threes in the first five minutes led by senior Thomas Wisecup hitting five in a row to give the Beavers a 27-12 lead to force a CUC timeout.  Out of the timeout, the Cougars gained back a little momentum on a Wilson layup and a Sawyer Concklin three to cut the lead to eleven.  Buena Vista quickly erased any Cougar hope with a 16-0 run of their own.  The Beavers closed out the half shooting 52 percent from the field leading to a 54-29 halftime lead.

The second half was much of the same for the Cougars.  Buena Vista answered every chance CUC tried to cut into the lead.  Pelissier started shooting the ball better from three hitting two threes to help the Cougars.  However, Buena Vista got contributions from everyone on their bench to extend their lead and cruise to an easy 98-65 victory.

The Cougars (1-8, 0-5 NACC) will return to action after Christmas break on Saturday, December 30 when they travel to Fond du Lac, Wis. to take on Marian University.  Tip off is set for 2:00pm.
