Cougars Show Promise in Exhibition Against Loyola

Chicago, Ill.- The Concordia-Chicago women's basketball began their season with an exhibition tonight against Loyola University Chicago. The Ramblers took a 38-19 at the half and didn't look back in route to their 91-56 victory in the first of two preseason exhibitions for CUC.

Taylor Jacobsen led the way for the Cougars with 21 points, three rebounds, and two assists.  Crystal Corr followed that up with a line of 12 points, including 4-4 from the charity strike and eight rebounds.

The Cougars shot 28 percent (22-78) from the field, while the Ramblers shot 42 percent (32-75).

First quarter got off to a slow start as both teams were struggling to knock down shots.  The Cougars highlight of the quarter was when Jacobsen put her defender in a spin cycle for an easy layup. Unfortunately, that was much of the offense as the Ramblers had an 18-8 lead after one.

The second quarter the Cougars continued to struggle from the floor as the Ramblers length caused problems in altering shots.  Ramblers used three threes to help them extend their lead and take a 38-19 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Cougars played much better shooting 43 percent from the floor, including Corr leading CUC with six points.  However, the Ramblers capitalized on second chance opportunities and forced turnovers to take a 61-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter CUC continued to play tough and forced a few more turnovers. Courtney Lofink got in on the action scoring her only five points of the game.  Loyola continued to shoot well from the floor and use their length to their advantage on both ends of the court leading to the 35 point victory.

The Cougars begin their season November 16 when they travel to Carlinville, Ill. to take on Blackburn College.  Tip-off is set for 6:00pm.
