Eagles Cruise In Victory Over Cougars

River Forest, Ill.- Concordia-Chicago took on the defending Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference champions Benedictine University this evening.  The Cougars were looking for their first NACC win of the season after two tough road losses to Aurora and Wisconsin Lutheran, while the Eagles looked to continue their dominance and remain undefeated early in the conference schedule.  From the start, Benedictine dictated the pace and made the Cougars play their game.  The Eagles got their lead and didn't look back cruising to a 103-70 victory.

After a blistering start, the Cougars cooled off to shoot 37 percent (24-65), while the Eagles were able to move the ball around CUC's defense to shoot 56 percent (36-64) from the field.

Henry Woo Jr. and Mitch Pelissier each led the Cougars with 14 points each combining to go 11-25 from the field.  The Eagles had five players in double figures with Eric Grygo and Jens Soderholm scoring a combined 49 points and shooting an astonishing 84 percent combined from the field.

First few minutes into the game both teams came out clicking on all cylinders.  Jonathan Wilson and Woo Jr. scored the first nine points for the Cougars, but the Eagles came out shooting over 78% from the field to give them an 18-9 lead.  Midway through the half, Benedictine continued to get easy looks at the basket having seven of their eight players that played recording points.  With CUC's offense cooling down, BenU was able to extend their lead to 34-13.  Few minutes later, the Cougars were able to cut into the Eagles lead with back to back threes by Pelissier and Jarek Hotwagner, but CUC still saw a seventeen point deficit.  Benedictine had a very balanced attack on offense with sophomore forward Grygo leading the way with 19 points on 7-8 shooting to give them a 53-29 lead at halftime.

The second half started like the beginning of the first half.  Woo Jr. sparked the Cougars for a bit with a nice floater in the lane and a three from the left wing, but the Eagles matched CUC shot for shot.  Benedictine extended their lead when they went on a 15-2 run to lead 83-45 midway through the second half.  The Eagles went in cruise control from there to a 103-70 win over the Cougars.

The Cougars (1-4, 0-3 NACC) will return to action this upcoming Saturday as they travel to  Rockford University.  Tip off is set for 2:00pm.
