March 23, 2016 - The Cougars' first assignment in Midwest Lacrosse Conference play could not have been much more difficult. Defending conference champion Aurora University provided the opposition, and this game was decided early on. The Spartans scored 11 goals in the first quarter and cruised from there to a 29-0 victory.
Aurora opened the scoring just 49 seconds after the initial faceoff and built their lead to 7-0 by the midway mark of the quarter. Late in the quarter, the Cougars reeived a couple of man-up opportunities but were unable to capitalize on either one. The Spartans continued to roll, stretching the lead to 24 at the half and 28 after three.
The Cougars were limited to just two shots for the match, those coming from
Jordan Loeffler (Orland Hills, IL/Sandburg) and
Adam Ortiz (Chicago, IL/Mount Carmel). Ortiz played a very active role for CUC, gaining 10 of the Cougars' 19 ground balls.
Noah Bachofen (Franklin, WI/H.S.) stood up to an onslaught of 68 Aurora shots, making 13 saves for the game.
Concordia-Chicago (0-6) will return home and prepare to host Hope College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
