Feb. 21, 2016 -Â The Concordia-Chicago men's basketball team rode into Saturday's season finale hoping to take a two-game winning streak into the offseason. However, the Cougars' opposition was the Falcons of Concordia University Wisconsin, a team that has put up some impressive offensive numbers in recent games The Cougars were unable to slow down the hosts, as they shot a blazing 79 percent from the field in the first half, 61 percent for the game to roll to a 127-80 victory.
A couple of early threes started CUW rolling to an 8-2 lead, withÂ
Israel Dosie (Chicago, IL/Al Raby)Â providing CUC its initial points. But the Falcons, beginning with Brad Prinsen's basket, hit eight of their next nine shots from the field to take a 28-14 lead at the 11:28 mark of the half.
DeAires Blackwell (Chicago, IL/St. Rita)Â looked to keep the Cougars in the hunt as he scored 11 first-half points. However, the hosts were not to be denied. They would finish the half shooting 27 of 34 and holding a 74-35 lead.
The second half provided both coaches with the opportunity to use their full roster in the regular-season finale. For the Cougars,Â
Jorge Palacios (Berwyn, IL/Nazareth Academy)Â took advantage of his chance with a perfect 12-minute stint, hitting all three of his shots from the field (including a three) and all four of his free throws for 11 points.
Joining Palacios in double-figure scoring wereÂ
Mike Walmer (Orlando, FL/Orlando Christian)Â with 15 points, Blackwell with 14 and seven rebounds, and Dosie with a season-high 11. Walmer finished the season as the Cougars' leading scorer with a 15.5 average, 13th in Northern Athletisc Collegiate Conference scoring. Blackwell averaged 6.7 rebounds per game, good for tenth in the NACC.
Concordia-Chicago finished the season with a 6-19 record overall, 5-15 in NACC play. Head coach
Randy Rogers will have virtually his entire roster available to return for the 2016-17 season.  Â
