Falcons Soar Past Cougar Women Behind Hot Start

November 30, 2016 – The Concordia-Chicago Cougars traveled to Mequon, Wisconsin to take on the rival Falcons of Concordia-Wisconsin Wednesday night.  Picked second in the pre-season NACC poll, Cougars knew they had to come out ready to play against a tough Falcons team..  The Falcons came out clicking from the start, using a long run in the first to gain control. CUW never looked back from there to a stress free 86-58 win over CUC.

The game was off to an odd start as CUC was given an administrative technical. That gave CUW two free throws to start the game before the clock started. Onc the first quarter started the Falcons jumped out to an early 12-5 lead as they continued to beat the Cougars full court press.  The Jacobsen twins, Taylor and Erin led the charge for the Cougars in the first quarter, providing a spark.  The posts down low for the Falcons proved to me too much for the Cougars as CUW dominated the Cougars in the paint with 14 points which lead to a 26-14 Falcon lead after the first.

The second quarter started slow as both teams went back and forth turning the ball over.  CUW continued to use their height to their advantage on the glass with offensive rebounds leading to second chance points.  The Falcons have out rebounded the Cougars 32-16 in the half and in second chance points 12-2, which allowed them to grow their lead to 43-24 after one half of play.  Falcons Taylor DeLong led them with 11 points and 5 rebounds off the bench in the first half while the Cougars Taylor Jacobsen led CUC with 9 points and 2 rebounds.

The third quarter displayed some pretty passing from the Falcons as they were very unselfish with the ball getting baskets at ease under the hoop.  Cougars hung up with the Falcons in the third shooting better from the field, but could not get stops on defense.  Falcons extended their lead 68-41 to end the third quarter.

Fourth quarter the Cougars came out hitting shots sparking a 10-2 run to cut into the Falcon lead forcing a CUW timeout. T. Jacobsen led the charge knocking down a three and a fast break lay-up. CUC was unable to push back any farther in the game, falling by a final tally of 86-58,

The leading scorer for the Cougars was T. Jacobsen with 26 points followed by Lauren Orr with 17. The Cougars cold shooting proved costly tonight as they shot 33 percent from the field and 27 percent from three. The Falcons were led by Taylor DeLong with 23 points and 8 rebounds coming off the bench. The Falcons shot 42 percent from the field and out rebounded the Cougars 58-34

The Cougars (2-2, 1-2 NACC) travel to Madison, Wis this Saturday for game three of the four game road trip, in a NACC matchup against Edgewood College.  Opening tip is scheduled for 2:00pm.
