Falcons Top Cougars in CIT Women's Third-Place Game

Jan. 28, 2012 - Northern Athletics Conference rivals Concordia-Chicago and Concordia Wisconsin hooked up this afternoon in the third-place game of the 61st annual Concordia Invitational Tournament. The Cougars hoped to avenge an earlier loss in Mequon to the Falcons, but Concordia Wisconsin pulled away in the second half to claim a 72-42 victory.
The Cougars fell behind early, but a couple of threes by freshman Kassy Koehler (Belvidere, IL/Rockford Lutheran) kept the home team in the chase. Later in the half, five quick points by Krystyna Rickett (Sandusky, MI/H.S.) brought the Cougars within 20-18. However, Brittany Zietlow scored eight points as part of a 12-2 run to close the half and give the Falcons a 32-20 lead at intermission.
Baskets by Claire Mackey (Shelton, NE/Heartland Lutheran) and Rickett brought the Cougars within43-32 with 13 minutes to play. However, three-point baskets by Zietlow and Emily Wesley contributed to a 20-2 run that let the visitors pull away for good.
Rickett led the Cougars with 19 points, the only Cougars to score in double figures. She earned a place on the CIT women's all-tournament team.
The Cougars (7-12) return to conference play Wednesday night when they travel to Dominican University.
