Tim Wier ‘05 and the Concordia men’s cross-country team enjoyed a concurrent and unprecedented run of success in the early 2000s. Wier contributed to the Cougars’ four consecutive Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference championships (2001-04) and was named the conference’s Male Runner of the Year over his final three seasons. As of 2013, he owns three of the Cougar men’s top 11 times in the 8K run.

Wier was also a four-year letterman in track & field. Through 2013, he still holds the school record for the indoor 1,500-meter run at 4:21.79. He was also part of the record-setting indoor distance medley relay team (10:54.72) from the 2003 season.

In 2005, Wier earned third-team Academic All-America honors from CoSIDA and ESPN The Magazine. In addition, Wier was awarded first-team NIIC All-Scholastic honors for 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Wier was named the male recipient of Concordia’s George Terry-John Schubert Memorial Christian Service Award in 2005. That same year, he was a finalist for Concordia’s A.W. Gross Distinguished Senior-Scholar Award.

Wier earned his BA in secondary education with an emphasis in computer science. He has served Concordia as a network manager in CougarNet and as a cross-country assistant coach since 2005. A member of St. John Mayfair Lutheran Church in Chicago, Wier has served as the president of the congregation since 2011.
