Mary (Holl) Scott, ’80 – Scott earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Concordia. She received her M.A. in athletic administration from Adelphi University in 1985 and her doctorate in education from Pepperdine University in 1996.
Scott, a recipient of Concordia’s A.W. Gross Senior-Scholar Award, lettered in volleyball and basketball for four years each and tennis for one year. She played setter for the volleyball team, served as a captain for the Cougars’ conference-winning teams during her junior and senior years, and earned All-Northern Illinois Intercollegiate Conference honors in her senior season of 1979. The Cougars went a collective 69-25 during Scott’s four years, including seasons where the team placed third (1977) and fourth (1978) in the state tournament.
Scott was a member of the Cougars’ basketball team that went 11-5 during the 1976-77 season and captured fourth place at the Illinois “Small College” state tournament.
Upon graduation, Scott taught and coached volleyball and basketball at Martin Luther High School in Maspeth, New York. In 1985, Scott accepted a call to Concordia University in Irvine, California. She would guide the Lady Eagle volleyball and basketball programs for the next 10 years and serve as athletic director from 1987 to 1995. Scott earned the NAIA District III Athletic Administrator of the Year honors in both 1991 and 1992.
Scott remains at Concordia Irvine where she is the University’s Executive Vice President and Provost.
