Julie (Haertling) Burgess, ’83 – Burgess lettered in both track and field hockey for four years. A formidable distance runner, Burgess holds Concordia track records in the 800, 1,500 and 10,000 meters and is a previous holder of the 3,000 and 5,000-meter records. She captained the track team, leading the Cougar women to a fifth-place state finish in 1981 by winning the 1,500 meters at the State Meet in Wheaton College.
Burgess earned her B.A. in elementary and secondary education and has taught at the elementary level in five states. She has also coached basketball, volleyball and track and been active in leading Vacation Bible School and other children’s ministries. Burgess currently teaches fourth grade and coaches volleyball at Trinity Lutheran Church in Delray Beach, Florida.
