Don Dinkmeyer, deceased May 17, 2001, graduated from Concordia Teachers College in 1943. He earned his master’s from Northwestern University, his doctorate from Michigan State University, and his honorary doctorate from Concordia University, River Forest in 1990.
Dinkmeyer’s service to Concordia began in 1946 as an athletic coach and continued through 1954. Upon leaving Concordia, he coached at Lutheran North from 1954 to 1959 where one of his teams earned the title of conference champion.
During his lifetime, Dinkmeyer was an author and psychologist. He was the founder of the Family Education program at Lutheran Ministry in Christ Church, Coal Springs, Florida and served as a member of the call committee in 1997 for the church’s pastor.
Dinkmeyer was married for 51 years and has two sons who are both involved with collegiate athletics and counseling.
