Bill Young, ’73, earned his B.S. from Concordia and his M.S. from the National College of Education in Evanston.

Young began his professional career in 1975 at Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha, Wisconsin, serving as a physical education instructor, freshman football coach and junior varsity wrestling coach. In 1978, he took over as the head football coach and led the Crusaders to 23 winning seasons out of the next 25. Included in that run were 22 W.I.S.S.A. playoff appearances, four Division One state championships and six state runner-up finishes. Young’s teams have gone undefeated seven times in conference play and five times suffered only one conference loss, and his 1993 team turned in a perfect overall season record of 12-0. Entering the 2003 season, he has compiled a 209-66 record at Catholic Memorial. Young has earned area Coach of the Year honors eight times, and he was inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2002.

In addition to his football coaching duties, Young has chaired the physical education department and has coached wrestling and track. Since 1981, he has coached 29 state wrestling champions and led his teams to five state wrestling championships, five runner-up finishes, seven conference championships and 10 regional championships. He was named Teacher of the Year at Catholic Memorial in 1990.
