Armin Paul Gutekunst, ’32, deceased, attended Concordia Teachers College, River Forest for four years as a high school student and went on to graduate with a teaching degree two years later. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and his master’s from the same university in 1953.
While at Concordia, Gutekunst participated in track for four years where he set school records in the 100-yard dash (9.8 seconds) and the long jump (23’10”) in 1932.
After leaving Concordia, Gutekunst served as teacher, coach and principal to Lutheran schools in Arkansas, Missouri and (for 23 years) in Chicago. He was honored by the Lutheran Education Association (LEA) with the Christus Magister (Christ the Teacher) Award in 1975 for 43 years of service to the LCMS.
Gutekunst is survived by wife Erna, daughter Susan, and three grandchildren, David, Stephanie, and Matthew.
