JV Volleyball 10/01/12 v. Lincoln Christian by Kristin Allen
Monday night the CUC JV volleyball team recorded their first big win of the season against Lincoln Christian University. The home crowd helped spur the Cougars to victory over the Lions in three games with the scores 25-11, 25-21, and 25-23.
Game one was easily won with consistent passing and powerful hitting by CUC. Serving was another influential part of the game, especially from Alisha Suvada who recorded 3 aces during her 8 point serving run helping the score reach 14-5. Other dominant aspects of game one include: Lisa Koller who hit .500 in the first game, an ace by Meghan O’Hara followed by a smart tip by Hannah Moody, and a swing from Angela Hennig helped the score reach 24-10. With a perfect pass, set, and swing on the last point CUC defeated LCU for game one.
Game two got off to a good start with big swings from Inez Carrasquillo, Hannah Moody, and Cheryl Robaczewski. The Lions stayed close behind the Cougars until Suvada added to her stats by serving another eight in a row and a total of six aces for the night. With a tip from Robaczewski, a solo block by O’Hara, and a slide kill from Carrasquillo, the home team took set two.
Set three was neck and neck to start as each team took turns scoring every other point for the first eight points. But aces helped the Cougars gain a lead with the help of Moody at 10-11, Mary Umstattd at 16-15, and O’Hara at 20-16. A kill from Lisa Koller ended the match and topped off her 7 kills for the night. Moody led the way with 8 kills as well as 7 digs along with Suvada.
