Wednesday, August 9 saw the 2017 Concordia-Chicago football team report to campus to begin their workouts in advance of the new season. While the 2016 season saw the graduation of Randy Awrey's first four-year class, the fifth-year CUC head coach was happy to see the 39 new freshmen and transfers check in.

"I'm very happy with the job that our football coaching staff has done in bringing in this new group of players," said Awrey. "We've added some guys that will address our need at a couple of positions and give us increased overall depth. More than that, I'm happy to say that all of these guys we're bringing in are quality individuals who have their priorities straight and will become great assets to the members of the Concordia community and great ambassadors for the university."

The following will plan to don the maroon and gold for the first time on Sept. 2 when the Cougars open up their 95^th season of intercollegiate football at Ripon College. The Cougars' first of five home games will take place the following Saturday, Sept. 9 when CUC hosts Lewis and Clark Valley College.
