March 5, 2015 – Junior guard
Kylan Anderson (Chicago, IL – homeschooled) of Concordia University Chicago was recognized for a fine first season with the men's basketball team as he was named a first-team all-conference player by the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference today. The voting was conducted by the 11 head coaches of the nine-year-old conference.
Anderson led the Cougars in scoring with 393 points for a 15.7 average. He was the team's top free-throw shooter at 78 percent (46-59) and led the team with 29 steals. Anderson's top games were a 37-point effort against Benedictine University on Jan. 27 and a 35-point game against Concordia University Wisconsin on Jan. 7.
"Kylan was very deserving of this award as he was our best offensive and defensive player," said CUC men's basketball head coach
Tyler Jones. "Usually when you come into a new team, there is an adjustment period, but he fit in very quickly, learned the league and became a top contributor in our program."
Patrick Phillip (Kissimmee, FL/Osceola) was named to the five-player All-NACC Freshman team. Phillip, a 6'5" forward, averaged 5.4 points and 3.6 rebounds while earning a part-time starter's role. His best game came on Jan. 15 with an 18-point effort against regular-season NACC champion Aurora University.
"Patrick was a very important part of our team," said Jones. "He gave us a legitimate low-post threat but also played very selflessly. He fit very well into our system, and our guys really enjoyed playing with him."
