Sept. 18, 2012 - The Concordia-Chicago women's tennis team welcomed Aurora University this afternoon for a Northern Athletics Conference match originally scheduled for Sept. 5. The match did not begin well for the Cougars as they lost all three doubles matches, and the visitors eventually claimed a 7-2 victory.
The first doubles team of
Deanna Richardson (Bellwood, IL/Walther Lutheran) and
Abby Matayka (Arlington Heights, IL/Rolling Meadows) battled Chloe Madison and Christy Savellano point for point to an 8-8 tie. The contest was decided in a tiebreaker which went to the Spartans' tandem by a 7-5 score.
Aurora won the other two doubles matches in less dramatic fashion. The second team of Natalie Jansen and Emily Kuntzi defeated
Kamile Udrenaite (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South) and
Kristy Heimsoth (Milwaukee, WI/Martin Luther) 8-4, and the third team of Jordan Hankes and Andrea Pacheco won 8-2 over
Molly Maas (Pewaukee, WI/H.S.) and
Hannah Kaul (Wauwatosa, WI/Wauwatosa East).
In singles play, Richardson won at first by 6-2, 6-0 scores over Madison. Concordia's other point came at third singles where the Aurora player defaulted to Udrenaite.
Concordia will play another rescheduled match this Friday at 3:00 when they host the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
