Feb. 10, 2012 - The Concordia-Chicago women's track team enjoyed a record-setting evening at North Central College. Four school records were toppled as the Cougars finished 13th out of 20 teams at the Chicagoland Indoor Championships, a traditionally large meet that features a handful of local Division I teams as part of the field.
Alex Schmidt (Frankenmuth, MI/H.S.) led the way with two new records in the 3,000 and 5,000-meter runs. In both cases, Schmidt beat her own records by a respectable amount. She finished fourth out of 22 runners in the 5K with an 18:27.93, an effort that was 43.54 seconds better than her Jan. 19 performance at Lewis University. Schmidt's time of 10"53.07 was good for seventh place out of 36 runners in the 3K and a 16-second improvement on her performance from one year ago at North Central.
Cheryl Robaczewski (Schiller Park, IL/East Leyden) set a new record in the 20-lb. weight throw with a 43' 6" throw that beat the old record by eight inches and her own personal best by 25 inches. Robaczewski's effort was good for eighth place out of 32 entrants.
Danyale Worsham (Downers Grove, IL/Lisle) claimed the other new record in the 200-meter dash. Her time of 27.58 seconds eclipsed the old record of 27.70 and was good for 13th place out of 63 runners.
Also of note,
Amanda Allen (Deerfield, WI/H.S.) scored for the team in the shot put. Her throw of 36' 5 3/4" placed her seventh out of 48 throwers.
The Cougars will return to North Central on Friday to compete in the Cardinal Classic.
