Feb. 11, 2012 - The Cougar men's track team competed in the Chicagoland Championships at North Central College this afternoon. The meet is traditionally one of the largest competitive fields on the indoor schedule, and the Cougar men met the challenge with several personal-best performances and one school record. The Cougars finished 13th out of the 20 teams competing.
The school record came from
Merrell Davis (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Lutheran) in the 60-meter dash. Davis ran a 7.04, beating
Khara Williams' previous record by 1/100th of a second. Davis finished in fourth place out of 58 runners and also placed sixth in the long jump with a 21' 10" effort.
Larry Mayne (Chicago, IL/South Shore) scored a fourth place in the triple jump out of 23 entrants. His best jump was recorded at 44' 0 3/4".
Freshman Josh Schultz (Brookfield, WI/Milwaukee Lutheran) continued his fine rookie season with a high jump of 5' 11 1/2". His effort landed him in a three-way tie for seventh place.
Also of note from the meet was the performance of the Cougars' 4 x 400-meter relay team. The foursome of
Jason and
Justin Pomey (North Riverside, IL/Riverside-Brookfield), C.J. Pasley (St. Louis, MO/Lutheran North) and
Todd Johnson (Columbus, OH/Manatee H.S. FL) ran a 3:35.08, the second-best time in Concordia's indoor history (3:29.71, set in February 1999).
The Cougars will compete at North Central College again on Friday afternoon for the Cardinal Classic.
